People often ask me what kind of software does it take to dabble in the graphics world, so I thought I’d take a second and outline some of the programs I use. I started in web design and that ultimately led to a greater use of graphic programs throughout the years. I’m pretty happy with the programs I use.
1.Blender 3D
I am the biggest fan of Blender, a 3D program that does EVERYTHING! I am not kidding, I believe this will take over not only the 3d world (many previously free programs went the “pay through the nose” route) but make a giant dent in video, sfx and audio as well. The open source platform is leading to a bunch of development mostly through add-ons or plug-ins, whichever you like to call them. I like other free programs as well, but this one absolutely takes the cake.
2. Adobe After Effects
This is my go-to video and special effects machine. I actually pay for a license to use the suite of Adobe products so I’ve spent some time learning most of them in order to make them that much more cost effective! AE is like the Photoshop for video. An industry standard in movie production and special effects.
3. Adobe Premiere Pro
I use this one for compositing and editing most video. This is also an industry standard. It’s very intuitive, fun and easy to use.
4. Adobe Illustrator
An essential tool for vector graphics production. Logos and many other web graphics are made with Illustrator. The go to program for vector development hands down. The free program that offers similar features is Inkscape.
